[Masilgil Trail 3 Story]

This section of the Masilgil Trail takes one along the majestic coastal rock formations of Jeokbyeokgang and Chaeseokgang Cliffs, formed during the Jurassic Period nearly 70 million years ago. Gyeokpohang Port offers its freshest catches for the visitors, and there is always a ferry ride to the Widohang Port.

[Observatory]Haseom Observatory

This deck is the perfect place to see Haseom Island, named after a lotus flower that the island is said to resemble. It is also a place to catch the rare phenomenon of sea parting, which takes place twice a month.

[Village]Banwol Village

Nearly 350 years ago, a Confucian scholar named Yu Hyeongwon (pen-name Bangye) is said to have visited this village on his journey throughout the Korean peninsula. Upon seeing the ridges of Suribong Peak enveloping the village like a half-moon, Yu gave the name Banwol (半月; half-moon) to the village and said that the mountain will bring great wealth and prosperity to the village.

[Tourism]Jeokbyeokgang Cliff

Jeokbyeokgang Cliff is an integral part of Byeonsan Peninsula's famed scenery. The reddish rocks of the cliff clash majestically with the blue waters of the sea especially in sunset, when the rocks catch the light of the fading sun and glow with a scarlet hue.

[Tourism]Chaeseokgang Cliff

Buan's Chaeseokgang Cliff is a collection of rock formations and a rock cliff seemingly carved out of a thousand books stacked on top of each other. Its name comes from its resemblance to the Caishiji, a famous scenic site near the Yangtze River in China. One side of the Dalgibong Peak has been eroded over many years by waves, creating the striking sedimentary layer of today.

[Port]Gyeokpohang Port

Gyeokpohang Port was originally a naval base during the Joseon period, and served as the central point in the transportation network connecting the nearby Wido, Wangdeungdo, Hongdo, and other islands of the West Sea. It is a good place to stock up on fresh seasonal seafood.
