- This site is where the Confucianist Yu Hyeongwon (1622-1673) carried out lifelong research during King Hyojong's(1649-1659) and King Hyeonjong's(1659-1674) regime during the Joseon Dynasty.
Yu Hyeongwon is typically known as Bangye, which is his pen name. After the Byeongja War (1636) Bangye left Seoul and moved around to several places, until he finally settled down in Wubandong of the Byeonsan Peninsula and fully concentrated on his studies.
- He was recommended several times to the position of high official due to his ability in study, but he turned down these recommendation and lived his entire life as a man of nature. The goal of his studies was to make farming towns prosperous and enhance the life of citizens. Many Confucianists of the late Joseon Dynasty were influenced by Bangye. Bangye left a book written by himself, the "Bangye Collection." His tomb is in Yongin, Gyeonggido.
