Dongmunan Dangsan

  • Dongmunan Dangsan's Photo
  • This site is where the east gate of the old Buan-eup Province stood, and it is called Dongmunan. The dangsan and jangseung of Dongmunan were erected as guardian spirits that guard the gates and the town from disaster and protect property.
It is unclear when the dangsan and jangseung was erected, but it is assumed to be erected in the 17th century. Once in every two years, on the 15th of January according to the lunar calender, a town festival including folk music, tug of war, dressing the dangsan, and the dangsan religious service is held.
  • Originally this place was a resting place for the townspeople and there used to be a large dangsan tree, but now the resting place is gone and the two "gatekeeper knight" jangseungs have been moved backwards due to the opening of a road.
